Funktionsprinzip ONH

Für die Analyse der Elemente O, N und H wird die Metallprobe thermisch zersetzt. Die Metallprobe wird in einem Graphittiegel im Induktivofen erhitzt. Hier können Temperaturen bis zu 3000 °C erreicht werden. Als Trägergas wird Helium oder Stickstoff eingesetzt. Die freigesetzten Gase, wobei der Sauerstoff O mit dem Kohlenstoff C des Graphittiegels zu Kohlenstoffmonoxid CO reagiert, durchströmen mit Hilfe des Trägergasflusses verschiedene Stationen (Katalyse, Absorber etc.) des Messsystems und werden in den entsprechenden Messzellen detektiert.

In einer Infrarot-Messzelle wird der Sauerstoffanteil über den CO2-Gehalt bestimmt. Der molekulare Wasserstoff und Stickstoff wird mit einer Wärmeleitfähigkeitszelle gemessen. Da die Wärmeleitfähigkeitszelle zur Bestimmung von Wasserstoff und Stickstoff eingesetzt wird, arbeitet der Analysator in zwei verschiedenen Betriebsmodi und kann somit entweder den Stickstoff oder den Wasserstoff detektieren.

Funktionsprinzip CS

Es findet eine Hochfrequenzverbrennung der Metallproben bei ca. 2300 °C in einer reinen Sauerstoffatmosphäre statt. Während der Verbrennung werden die freigesetzten Kohlenstoffbestandteile zu CO/CO₂ und Schwefelbestandteile zu SO₂ oxidiert. Staub und Wasser werden anschließend aus dem Verbrennungsgas herausgefiltert. Die Verbrennungsgase werden im Trägergasstrom (Sauerstoff) zu den entsprechenden Infrarotmesszellen weitergeleitet.

Sowohl für ONH als auch für CS können kompakte Proben sowie Späne, Drähte oder Pulver analysiert werden.
